UPDATE in 04-24-2007: As I'm a target to art thiefs, I'm changing the file for one with a smaller size and a larger watermark.
Doing this, I know visitors can't see the details, but is to try to prevent problems.


One of my best friends is a History teacher. In january, she travels to Guatemala to visit the Mayan ruins, and now she returns with gifts and a lot of stories to me.
In the Mayan calendar, I'm a Jaguar! Fascinating! The Jaguar is my favorite animal in the brazilian fauna - and is one of our most beautiful animals too.
Then, I wished to draw something with my original characters based on indian tales. The jaguars are very populars in brazilian folklore, and in the south american indian mythology too. The girl is Yawara (nothing much original - yawara is just a indian name for jaguar). I created her based on a misc of different tales, from different tribes, speaking about the same thing, jaguars and the creation of the mankind. Yawara has red hair because of the fire - jaguars was, once time, the keepers of the fire, before lost it for the humans.
In the future, I will draw her twin brother, Akagu.
Made while listening Sagrado Coração da Terra, a perfect soundtrack - Sagrado Coração da Terra is a brazilian music band, plays splendid music, and the name meanings "Sacred Heart of the Earth".


Uma de minhas melhores amigas é uma professora de História. Em janeiro, ela viajou para a Guatemala para visitar as ruínas maias, e retornou trazendo-me presentes e muitas histórias. Descobri que no calendário maia, eu sou um jaguar! Fascinante! O jaguar é meu animal preferido da fauna brasileira, e um dos nossos mais belos animais também.
Decidi então desenhar alguns personagens originais meus, que foram baseados em lendas indígenas. Esta é Yawara (nada muito original - yawara é o termo tupi para jaguar), e foi criada com base em um misto de várias lendas relativas ao jaguar e sua relação com a origem da humanidade. Ela tem os cabelos vermelhos porque os jaguares eram os portadores do fogo - eles o perderam para os homens e desde então passaram a comer a carne crua.
Posteriormente vou colocar aqui um desenho de Akagu, seu irmão gêmeo.
Desenhado ao som de Sagrado Coração da Terra - uma perfeita trilha sonora para a ocasião.

those eyes are simply gorgeous... i adore the composition of this piece as well. did you use some kind of reference for the little individual details of the leaves, or for the jaguar?

The jaguar looks so real >w< It's gorgeous! You captured the elegance of a large cat very, very well x3

I love the jungle-painted style...it's so pretty and fits this picture beautifully. The detailing on the leaves is so pretty, and adds a texture ^^

I'll hafta check this calender out for myself sometime x3
